Eight 24-hour strikes by London Underground drivers could disrupt Tube journeys between 26 November and 26 February, including Black Friday and the final Saturday before Christmas. The RMT union is opposing proposed changes to driving shifts, while Transport for London says the new four-day week would be voluntary. No specific Tube line closures have been announced, but visitors with flights, theatre tickets or rail connections should plan ahead.

The Dates That Could Disrupt Your Tube Journey

  • November: 26–27 (Thursday noon to Friday noon).
  • December: 17–18 and 19–20.
  • January 2027: 4–5 and 6–7.
  • February 2027: 17–18, 23–24 and 25–26.
  • Hours: Every walkout runs from 12:00 until 12:00 the next day.
  • Before travelling: CheckTfL live service updates, including the following morning; station and line closures are not yet confirmed.
“London Underground is attempting to dress up a wholesale attack on drivers’ working conditions as a voluntary four-day week."
Eddie Dempsey, RMT general secretary

A midday start means disruption could fall on afternoon trips and the next morning, rather than only the date marked on a calendar. Use TfL's Journey Planner to exclude the Tube and compare buses, Elizabeth line, London Overground and DLR services. Check your return journey separately, including the last available connection, and allow extra time for busy stations or a longer walk.

Airport transfers need particular care. The Piccadilly line serves Heathrow, but the Elizabeth line and Heathrow Express provide rail alternatives, with different fares and stops. Heathrow's official transport guide lists the options. Those flying from London City can check DLR services; Gatwick passengers should check National Rail operators separately. These networks are not part of the announced Tube strike, but may be busier.

The dispute is still unresolved, so the planned walkouts may change if negotiations progress. TfL's Conditions of Carriage state that service-delay refunds are suspended during strikes, and extra costs for alternative routes are not reimbursed. That makes it worth checking your route before paying for a taxi or replacement ticket. Bookings with strict check-in or entry times deserve a backup journey arranged in advance.
