Discover Airlines Adds Two Routes from Frankfurt to Eastern Finland
Discover Airlines will launch two direct seasonal routes between Frankfurt and eastern Finland in 2027, serving Savonlinna during the summer and Kajaani throughout winter 2027–2028. The new links will make the Lake Saimaa and Vuokatti regions easier to reach, while Frankfurt provides a broad choice of onward connections for visitors travelling through Germany.

Discover already flies between Frankfurt and Kittilä and will add a Munich–Ivalo route for the 2026–2027 winter season. Savonlinna and Kajaani extend its Finnish network beyond Lapland, with schedules built around each destination’s strongest season. Finavia says the services will support international tourism and outbound travel while giving local passengers access to more connections through Frankfurt and onward Lufthansa Group services.
Summer flights place visitors close to Lake Saimaa, Olavinlinna Castle, Punkaharju and the Savonlinna Opera Festival, while the Kajaani service is timed for the snow season. Kajaani Airport is around 35 minutes from Vuokatti, where visitors can ski, snowshoe and try other winter activities. The routes suit two distinct trips, combining lake and cultural breaks in summer with active holidays in Arctic Lakeland during winter.
The limited frequency will require careful planning, particularly around the overnight Savonlinna service and Friday-only Kajaani flights. Direct access avoids a domestic connection through Helsinki and may make shorter holidays more realistic for visitors arriving through Frankfurt. Travellers should compare arrival times with hotel check-in, car hire and local transport, then leave enough margin when building separate-ticket connections at the Frankfurt hub.
