Beirut Flights Expand as Travel Warnings Remain
Lufthansa Group is expanding its Beirut schedule this winter, with Lufthansa announcing Frankfurt services and SWISS planning to restart flights from Zurich in December. Eurowings already flies to the Lebanese capital from several European cities, offering another option for people visiting family or making essential trips. However, security warnings remain in place, and the airlines' published schedules may still change at short notice.

Frankfurt and Zurich can also serve as connecting points for passengers starting their journey elsewhere in Europe. Beirut Airport remains operational, but flight availability may change with the regional security situation. Roadblocks have also affected airport access, according to the UK Foreign Office. Passengers travelling for essential reasons should verify their flight status and their route to the terminal separately, particularly before a return journey.
Beirut Airport provides access to the capital’s Corniche waterfront and National Museum, while the historic coastal town of Byblos lies farther north. Those places may interest people already travelling to Lebanon, but sightseeing plans need to account for official warnings. The UK advises against all travel to some areas and all but essential travel to others; Germany warns against travel to southern Beirut and other high-risk regions.
More flights do not mean the security situation has stabilised. UK travel advice warns that visiting against official guidance may invalidate insurance, and sudden disruption can affect both flights and roads. British citizens can normally obtain a free one-month visa on arrival, with passports valid for at least three months after entry. Anyone travelling should check entry documents, insurance exclusions and arrangements for leaving if conditions deteriorate.
