On September 6, 2024, Argentina's aviation sector faced severe disruptions as two aviation unions went on strike, leading to the cancellation of more than 150 flights. This left thousands of passengers, including international travelers, stranded at airports across the country. According to reports, both domestic and international flights were affected, with many passengers left without clear information about their travel plans.

Passengers at airports, including Buenos Aires' Jorge Newbery Airfield and Ezeiza International Airport, were seen waiting on the floors, trying to get updates on their flights. Screens displayed long lists of canceled flights, creating chaos. "They’ve told us nothing so far," one passenger said. "There are no flights today, maybe tomorrow, but it’s still unclear."

The Cause of the Strike

The strike was called by two unions, including the Airline Pilots' Association (APLA), demanding salary increases and better working conditions. The national airline, Aerolíneas Argentinas, was heavily impacted, with most of its flights being canceled during the strike

Impact on Tourists

For travelers visiting or leaving Argentina, this strike has caused significant inconvenience, forcing many to change their plans or seek alternative airlines. As the situation remains fluid, tourists are advised to check flight updates and monitor changes closely before heading to the airport. With no clear resolution in sight, further delays or cancellations might continue in the following days(

What Passengers Should Do

Passengers affected by this disruption are reminded of their rights. Depending on airline policies, they may be entitled to compensation or the option to reschedule their flights. It is recommended that they contact their airlines' support teams to explore rebooking options or refunds. Travelers should also remain patient and avoid unnecessary trips to the airport without confirmed flight information.
