Air Europa Expands in Central America
Air Europa has opened bookings for a new direct service linking Madrid with San Salvador, adding another Central American destination to its long-haul network. Regular operations will begin in December, with three flights a week in each direction. The route will use Madrid-Barajas as a connecting hub, giving customers access to onward Air Europa services across Spain, wider Europe and parts of Africa.

The Boeing 787-8 will operate the route, while the airline’s Air Europa ON programme will bring updated onboard service and operational changes. Business Class customers are due to receive improved satellite Wi-Fi, refreshed amenities and a revised drinks menu. Air Europa says the new link forms part of its 2026 expansion, which has also added Oviedo, Seville, Geneva and Johannesburg to its network.
The direct service will make El Salvador easier to reach for city breaks and longer touring holidays. San Salvador’s historic centre includes the Metropolitan Cathedral, National Theatre and National Palace, while El Boquerón National Park sits on the nearby volcano. Beyond the capital, visitors can explore Joya de Cerén, the Ruta de las Flores and the surf beaches around La Libertad without routing through another Central American airport.
The new service gives UK and European passengers another straightforward way to reach El Salvador through Madrid, without another connection in the United States or elsewhere in Central America. With departures on three fixed days each week, travellers will need to match their plans to the timetable, but the route should make longer stays, surf trips and wider tours of the country easier to organise.
