Wizz Air has officially opened a new base at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan. The airline now serves 16 routes to nine countries and expects to carry more than 1.2 million passengers in 2025. Two Airbus A321neo aircraft will be stationed in Yerevan, supporting eight new direct routes to Europe and increasing flights to Dortmund to four per week.

The inauguration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Naples–Yerevan flight, attended by Wizz Air Hungary’s Managing Director Roland Tischner, officials from "Armenia" International Airports, and Armenia’s Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan. Alongside the expanded flight network, the airline expects to create more than 800 new jobs, boosting tourism and related industries while making Armenia more accessible for international visitors.

“We are delighted to welcome Yerevan to the Wizz Air network of home cities. Armenia is becoming increasingly important in our network, and our aim is to provide more smart travel opportunities for passengers travelling to and from Armenia. We are also excited to celebrate that two aircraft will join the Yerevan fleet in the winter of 2025. In total, Wizz Air will offer 16 routes to nine countries and providing passengers with direct access to Europe. With the new base, Wizz Air creates employment opportunities in Armenia, boosting the tourism sector and associated industries by more than 800 jobs."
Roland Tischner, Managing Director of Wizz Air Hungary

From September 2025, Wizz Air will also begin direct flights from Gyumri’s Shirak Airport to Larnaca, Cyprus. Since its entry into Armenia in 2020, the airline has carried more than 2.6 million passengers and now holds a 24% market share, making it the only airline to offer such extensive direct European routes. Yerevan is now Wizz Air’s 34th base, giving Armenia direct links to a wider range of European destinations.

The expansion of air service now allows travelers more straightforward access to both Armenia and Europe. Popular destinations such as Paris, Hamburg, and Prague are now directly linked to Yerevan. This means visitors to Armenia can more easily reach its key historic sites, including the ancient monasteries of Geghard and Haghpat, Lake Sevan, and Yerevan's active cultural scene. Setting the minimum fare at 9,000 AMD brings destinations that previously felt distant within easy reach, motivating wider travel between Armenia and Europe.

“We are happy to welcome Wizz Air to Zvartnots International Airport as a base carrier. This is a proud moment for our airport and for Armenia. We look forward to seeing more travelers through Wizz Air’s expanding network and are committed to ensuring smooth and successful operations together. Congratulations to our partners and wish Wizz Air continued success and safe flights."
Marcelo Wende, Director of “Armenia" International Airports

Opening the new base in Yerevan goes beyond flight numbers. It brings Armenia closer to Europe by offering direct routes that were previously less accessible. A balance of affordable pricing, expanded services, and local recruitment is set to strengthen both tourism and the national economy. For passengers, this translates into more destinations on the map and smoother travel options, creating a more practical way to move between Armenia and European cities.
