What travelers lie about: results of a study by Booking.com
The largest online accommodation booking system Booking.com has published its annual report with travel forecasts for 2024. The study found that most travelers lie or distort the truth while traveling.
It is noted that a total of 27,000 travelers from 33 countries were interviewed during the preparation of the report. Travel + Leisure reports.
Booking.com reported that: "68 percent of travelers believe they become the best version of themselves while roaming, 62 percent enjoy the anonymity that travel offers, 37 percent tell fictional stories about their lives, and 57 percent exude a "protagonist energy."
At the same time, only 70% of Americans surveyed "enjoy the anonymity of travel," making them the top travelers who are more likely to lie while traveling.
"These alter ego enthusiasts love the thrill of embodying a version of themselves 2.0 and are doing their best to reinvent their best selves. Fueling the idea that people take on different personas when traveling to feel more alive, 68% believe that while on vacation they are the best version of themselves, able to shed inhibitions and embrace new aspects of their personality, while 42% would even pay to rent a better car than the one they drive at home to live their best life with confidence," Booking.com said in a statement.
In addition, 54% of women and 63% of men said they plan to travel alone this year, naming the following as their top vacation destinations:
- 75% instantly relax by the shore;
- 67% are looking for a vacation on the water;
- 36% want to see the ocean or lake;
- 20% will look for wellness retreats;
- 18% prefer wellness retreats over riverbanks;
- 14% said they are even interested in trying psychedelic vacations.
