UK Foreign Office updated travel advisories for Brits travelling to UAE and neighbouring countries
Dubai remains a popular destination for British tourists all year round as the country's climate allows them to enjoy the warmth and sunshine at the resort even in winter. However, a new warning from the Foreign Office may affect the plans of some travellers.
The British were urged to be prepared for various obstacles due to possible terrorist attacks on the UAE and neighbouring countries. According to the Daily Star, the government is not calling for a travel ban but only warning travellers.
The ministry has updated its travel advisory for visiting United Arab Emirates, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi, due to recent military activity in the Red Sea.
Although tourists are warned that terrorists are likely to attempt attacks in the UAE, they are not advised to refuse to travel to the country. Instead, Britons are urged to be careful and keep an eye out for possible changes in travel advisories.
The reason for the new warnings is not only the conflict between Israel and Gaza but also the military actions in the Red Sea, in which the United States and the United Kingdom took part.
The statement reads, "Military action in response to attempts by Houthi militants to obstruct international navigation in the Red Sea is currently underway. While the area of military action is limited to the Red Sea and Yemen, it is possible that travel advisories to neighbouring countries may be changed at short notice."
Not only tourists planning a vacation in the UAE should be careful. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has updated recommendations for a total of 18 countries, including other popular tourist destinations:
- Lebanon
- Syria
- Jordan
- Israel
- Palestine
- Egypt
- Djibouti
- Eritrea
- Somalia
- Saudi Arabia
- Yemen
- Oman
- Kuwait
- Iraq
