On May 1, Ryanair publicly raised concerns about the practices of the online travel agency eDreams. According to the airline, multiple customers have experienced inflated prices and limited access to booking management after using the platform. Reports suggest that bookings made through eDreams included incorrect contact information, preventing travellers from receiving flight updates.

The airline claims that eDreams relies on automated tools to bypass standard distribution systems, submitting reservations with false email addresses, non-European payment methods, and incorrect postal data. Because of this, many travellers couldn’t change their bookings, ask for help, or use extra services like seat selection or checked baggage. These technical barriers have caused delays and confusion for travellers across various destinations.

The use of Chinese payment details, fake email addresses, and false postal information by eDreams is alarming and exposes their anti-consumer practices. Even more concerning is their apparent willingness to needlessly send European passenger information to third parties in China.

The statement also alleges that customers were charged above the airline’s listed fares. Some travellers said they didn’t get alerts when their flight times changed or when it was time to pick seats or arrange luggage, leaving them unsure about what to expect. These disruptions have caused uncertainty for travellers, particularly those relying on timely updates or last-minute adjustments during their trips. When things go wrong and time is tight, it can be really hard for travellers to get a refund or change their flight if the travel agency they used won’t let them contact the airline directly.

Travellers impacted by such issues may find themselves unable to manage bookings or resolve problems in time, especially when abroad. To steer clear of these problems, experts recommend making sure the website you're using has the airline’s approval before you buy anything. Booking directly with the airline or through verified partners ensures that passengers receive accurate flight information, easier customer service access, and protection from unexpected costs or misinformation during the booking process.

This situation shows why it really matters to know who you're booking with when planning travel online. With more people using travel websites, it’s becoming more important to know exactly who’s managing your booking behind the scenes. Misdirected payments or falsified contact data can significantly affect travel plans, increase financial risk, and reduce traveller autonomy. Verifying the legitimacy of booking agents helps safeguard both time and money, especially in situations involving delays, cancellations, or emergency rebooking.
