Glasgow Rail Line Weekend Shutdowns Affect Travel Plans in August

Glasgow’s Cathcart Circle line will undergo key maintenance in August to strengthen safety measures and ensure dependable service. These improvements are part of a wider effort to keep journeys smooth and dependable for locals and visitors alike traveling around the city’s southside and nearby neighborhoods. For both daily commuters and visitors, the improvements aim to make travel safer and more pleasant in the future.
The railway will be closed for essential maintenance during two weekends in August to allow engineers to carry out upgrades safely. The scheduled closures are:
- From early morning on Saturday, August 16, until early morning on Monday, August 18
- From 1 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, until 6 a.m. on Monday, August 25
Train services on the Cathcart Circle line and nearby routes will be suspended or altered during this period, affecting travel plans.
We’re encouraging customers to check their journeys in advance, as services on routes through Pollokshields West will be amended over both weekends. We’ve arranged for rail replacement transport, where possible, to keep customers moving.
Visitors to popular spots such as Queens Park Leisure Centre, Pollok Country Park, and Linn Park should expect service disruptions during the weekends. Access to these green spaces may require additional travel time or alternate transport, as replacement buses will run on affected routes. Visitors to Cathcart Community Centre, Battlefield Park, and nearby shops in Mount Florida may experience delays or changes to regular transit services.
Additional locations impacted include Hampden Park stadium, Maxwell Park, and the Carmunnock area. Events at Hampden Park or visits to Maxwell Park might involve longer journeys due to reduced train services and reliance on replacement buses. Travelers heading to these areas during the closures are advised to plan ahead and expect possible delays.
Although these weekend closures may cause short-term inconvenience, the work will result in improved track conditions and increased service reliability. These infrastructure upgrades are designed to minimize travel disruptions and improve passenger comfort going forward. Passengers are advised to check schedules before traveling and consider alternative routes to avoid disruption during this maintenance period.
