Hurricane Melissa caused major interruptions to flights across Jamaica. Both Montego Bay (MBJ) and Kingston (KIN) airports experienced some of the worst impacts. Air Canada announced a temporary policy allowing passengers to modify their travel plans without additional charges. This rule applies to individuals who purchased tickets for flights scheduled to depart between October 31 and November 9, 2025, and did so before October 28, 2025. All rebooked travel must be completed by November 30, 2025, depending on available seats.

The airline has also arranged extra departures from Kingston to assist passengers who need to return home. Travelers whose flights were cancelled can rebook to another destination or request a full refund. The airline issued this announcement to manage the disruptions caused by Hurricane Melissa, which affected air traffic and forced temporary closures at multiple airports in Jamaica.

The new schedule gives them more options, but it also means they will still be unsure. If you plan to travel, check your flight schedule before heading to the airport, as times may be updated again. After bad weather, both Montego Bay and Kingston airports are slowly getting back to normal, but delays, cancellations, and limited flight operations are likely to last for a few days.

Travelers should also be aware that the Caribbean remains vulnerable to tropical storms during this period, and airlines may continue to adjust operations for safety reasons. Travelers are encouraged to get updates straight from their airline and avoid relying only on third-party booking platforms for current details. Conditions can change quickly, and weather conditions are expected to affect several routes to and from the region.

This situation shows that severe weather continues to disrupt and reduce the reliability of international air travel. Passengers traveling through impacted regions are advised to anticipate potential schedule adjustments and stay in direct communication with their airline. Staying flexible, keeping travel insurance current, and being aware of the latest guidance remain the most effective ways to handle unpredictable weather situations like Hurricane Melissa.
