The wonderful city of Europe, where beer costs only 1.92 pounds
If you're looking to enjoy the nightlife, Prague might be the perfect destination for you. Known as the "booziest city in Europe," it offers cheap beer priced at £1.92 per pint and boasts a large number of clubs.
According to the World Bank, Tripadvisor, and Numbeo, only Las Vegas and New Orleans surpass Prague in terms of the number of nightlife venues per capita. This was reported by express.co.
Nearly one-fifth of all "entertainment" listings on Tripadvisor in the city are typically related to nightlife and alcohol. Although drinking is not mandatory when visiting Prague, its vibrant nightlife can be too tempting to resist, says the search engine company Holidu.
However, if you're looking to avoid alcohol, the Czech Republic may not be the ideal destination. The country has the highest per capita alcohol consumption in the world, with each person consuming an average of 14.45 liters of pure alcohol per year.
For comparison, one pint of beer with an average alcohol content of 5% contains about 0.03 liters of alcohol, which translates to roughly 481 bottles of beer per person each year.
Many people in the UK now think twice about consuming alcohol while on vacation abroad. According to a YouGov poll, almost one in four Britons now abstain from alcohol, with young people, especially those aged 18 to 24, leading the way as the "soberest generation," with nearly 39% of them abstaining from alcohol altogether.
Dr. Ritz Bira, a consulting psychologist, shared his observations: "I believe there is a growing number of individuals adopting a more sober lifestyle because people are becoming more aware of the effects of alcohol on the brain and body."
Dr. Bira also noted: "They are becoming more introspective and considering the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral effects of alcohol. For example, a common topic that my clients often raise is the potential loss of productivity and how ridiculous one can feel after consuming alcohol."
However, if a sober lifestyle isn't your preference, you might find a trip to Dublin more appealing. Dublin is famous for Guinness, and it's a beloved beverage among the Irish, with 81.3% of them consuming it. Just keep in mind that a pint in Dublin isn't cheap, averaging around £5.59.
Despite the high prices, some people still indulge in drinking. Nearly half of the Irish population reported consuming a significant amount of alcohol in the past month. The city is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere, with one of its main attractions being the Guinness Storehouse.
Berlin is another destination that may not be conducive to a sober vacation. Four out of five Germans enjoy drinking, and almost half of them admitted to having a "heavy drinking session" in the last thirty days. If you're trying to stay sober and find it challenging to resist peer pressure, it might be best to avoid the German capital.
