The new visa for digital nomads allows working in Japan for 6 months
Whether you prefer the bright lights of Tokyo or the thriving, slow-paced life in the countryside, Japan truly has something for everyone. And there's no better time than now to hop on a plane, as the country joins Spain, Portugal, and other European countries in offering "digital nomad visas" for remote workers.
Simply put, digital nomad visas give people the right to work remotely in a country other than their country of residence. Usually, they are valid for only six months to a year, but it's a great opportunity to explore a part of the world without worrying about financial insecurity, as emphasized by metro.co.
However, there are rather strict financial requirements for obtaining a Japanese digital nomad visa. This is because the Japanese government requires applicants to earn at least 10 million yen (about £53,485) per year and have private health insurance.
Although Japan has its own public healthcare system, travelers are not eligible for it.
The rules regarding accommodation are also quite strict. Since the visa is only valid for six months, travelers are not allowed to rent housing for an extended period of time.
However, it's not all bad news - your spouse and children will be able to join you on your adventure, provided they also have private health insurance.
In the end, the Japanese digital nomad visa may not be affordable for the average person. But if you can meet these requirements, you won't have to wait long. Japan's digital nomad visa is set to be launched in March.
