A Jet2 flight from London Stansted to Ibiza was forced to divert to Paris on 30 August after the crew declared a general emergency while flying over France. Flight LS1473, operated by a Boeing 737-800, transmitted the squawk 7700 emergency code around 90 minutes into the journey before turning towards Charles de Gaulle Airport. Jet2 has not yet confirmed what triggered the emergency.

The aircraft left Stansted at 8.10am BST and was cruising at 35,000ft when it changed course over northern France. Tracking data showed a 180-degree turn followed by a descent towards Paris, where emergency services were placed on standby. The Boeing landed safely on runway 27L at Charles de Gaulle at 10.49am local time. It then remained on the ground before the journey was resumed.

LS1473 Diversion Details

  • Route: London Stansted (STN)–Ibiza (IBZ).
  • Flight: Jet2 LS1473.
  • Aircraft: Boeing 737-800, registration G-JZHF.
  • Diversion: Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), 30 August.
  • Emergency code: Squawk 7700 signals a general emergency but does not identify the cause.
  • Paris departure: Around 12.37pm.
  • Ibiza arrival: Around 2.33pm, about two hours and 40 minutes late.
  • UK261: Covers the journey because it departed the UK.

A diversion does not by itself determine whether compensation is due. Under UK261, the important time is when the passenger reaches the destination booked on the ticket, rather than when the aircraft lands at the diversion airport. That distinction matters on flights such as LS1473, which stopped in Paris but later continued to Ibiza. The reason for the disruption also becomes relevant if the delay crosses the compensation threshold.

On the reported timings, LS1473 reached Ibiza about two hours and 40 minutes behind schedule, below the usual three-hour threshold for fixed delay compensation. Jet2 has not disclosed what caused the emergency, so it is also too early to assess whether the circumstances would qualify for compensation had the delay been longer. Passengers who incurred reasonable care costs during qualifying disruption can still submit expense claims with itemised receipts.
