The journalist gave three tips for tourists planning a trip to Dubai
A journalist who spent three weeks in Dubai on a business trip and had time to explore the city gave three tips for tourists. She admitted that she would have liked to know about these things at the planning stage of her trip.
The Business Insider correspondent covered the UN Climate Summit held in Dubai in December, so she was careful to research the country's culture and politics before her flight. However, this was not enough.
Don't limit yourself to closed clothing
Respecting the local religion and customs, the tourist preferred to pack covered blouses and long skirts when packing her suitcase. However, once in Dubai, she was surprised that the city is inhabited by people who can easily go out in quite open clothes.
If your religion allows, travelers should take into account how hot it is in the UAE and not neglect summer clothes. Of course, bathing suits will look inappropriate and uncultured in the city.
Visit Sharjah
The journalist advised visiting Sharjah to learn about the local culture. This is the place of origin of Emirati culture, which "fed" the country with pearl mining and fishing before oil was found.
"Depending on the traffic, Sharjah is about 25 minutes to an hour's drive north of Dubai. The best way to get there is by taxi, which, according to locals, can cost up to $30," the magazine's correspondent advised.
Remember freedom of speech
Although the UN rules were in effect during the journalist's visit to the exhibition, the rest of the time, the country's residents are subject to strict restrictions on freedom of speech and protests. This should be taken into account when visiting the country.
