IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed the first Hotel Indigo property in Sweden, with a new Stockholm hotel planned for the waterfront district of Kvarnholmen. The project brings the neighbourhood-led brand to a part of the capital known for industrial heritage, new housing and views towards the water, rather than another standard central hotel address.

Inside the Stockholm Signing

  • Brand debut: the first Hotel Indigo in Sweden
  • Location: Kvarnholmen, Nacka, Stockholm
  • Opening: scheduled for 2029
  • Rooms: 232
  • Developer: Kvarnholmen Utveckling, a Peab and JM joint venture
  • Operator: 1912 Hotels under an IHG franchise agreement
  • Facilities: rooftop pool, terrace, spa, gym, restaurant, bar and 150 sqm of meeting space
"We are delighted to bring Hotel Indigo to Stockholm, a city that perfectly embodies the brand's ethos of celebrating neighbourhood culture through design-led hospitality. Sweden is a market with strong and growing appeal for international and domestic travellers alike, and this signing reflects our commitment to expanding our portfolio across the Nordics. We're thrilled to deepen our relationship with 1912 Hotels, welcome Peab and JM as new partners, and soon introduce guests to the unique story of Kvarnholmen."
Willemijn Geels, Vice President, Development, Europe, at IHG Hotels & Resorts

The hotel will include a restaurant and bar, wellness and recreational facilities, social spaces and meeting areas of 150 sqm. Plans also include a rooftop pool and terrace, spa and gym facilities, plus an internal atrium with green space. It will join IHG’s Swedish portfolio alongside voco Stockholm – Kista and Ruby Frida in Stockholm.

The location could make Kvarnholmen more useful for visitors who want Stockholm without staying in the busiest central streets. The archipelago becomes easier to fold into a city break, while Nacka’s waterfront, local restaurants and modern residential areas add another side of the capital beyond Gamla Stan, shopping streets and the main museum routes.

By 2029, Stockholm visitors should have one more reason to look beyond the obvious hotel zones. Kvarnholmen will suit people who want water views, design-led interiors and quick access to both the city and the islands nearby. The signing also shows how Stockholm’s hotel map is slowly spreading into newer waterfront districts.
