Study shows that despite economic difficulties, travellers are willing to pay for eco-friendly accommodation
Despite the cost of living crisis, almost half of travellers are willing to pay more money for eco-friendly accommodation than for conventional accommodation. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by InsureandGo.
According to the study, out of more than 2,000 respondents, 61% of respondents were willing to pay more than £100 for greener accommodation options, and another 54% were willing to pay more for environmentally friendly housing with an average additional cost of £194. This was reported in Travel Weekly.
The study found that the pressure of rising costs encourages people to choose eco-friendly vacation options. Thus, 81% of respondents indicated one or more ways in which they want to save money and influence the environment, namely:
- 32% use last year's clothes and reusable tableware;
- 24% are taking less luggage to reduce their carbon footprint and plan to eat local food with low food miles at their destination;
- 21% are opting for self-service to support local shops and markets;
- 19% are considering short-haul travel, reducing the number of flight miles;
- 18% prefer public transportation to their own;
- 17% prefer to update their wardrobe by choosing second-hand clothes;
- 12% avoid airplanes during vacations.
