Spanish authorities are fighting the boar invasion in parks
A completely unexpected problem has gripped some popular resort destinations in Spain - a real invasion of wild boars is being recorded there. In this regard, the authorities have issued a warning and announced the involvement of archers to combat this problem.
For example, the mayor's office of the municipality of Mijas said it had no choice but to take decisive action, as the animals were spotted in children's parks. This is stated in the material of the Birmingham Live..
According to experts, there are more than one million wild boars in Spain, and this number could double by 2025. Moreover, there have been increasing reports of wild boars invading popular tourist destinations, causing chaos on beaches in tourist hotspots.
According to the local authorities, city halls "are recommended to use or allow the use of the place of capture and subsequent slaughter of captured individuals in accordance with the law on the protection of animal rights and welfare."
At the same time, local representatives are calling for more resources to be allocated to stop wild boars before they reach cities. They warn that wild boars are "invading" the countryside and "disrupting the ecological balance."
At the same time, animal rights activists say that accusations of wild boars carrying diseases are not true. According to Rubén Pérez, a spokesman for the Animal Protection Association Freedom!, "not a single case of [swine fever] has been documented in the whole of Galicia, let alone Spain."
The activists emphasize that there have always been wild boars in the area, but they were only seen from time to time. "But now you see them every night or hear them rummaging through garbage cans," said Manolo Cabello, a resident of Mijas.
He also added that the main road is right next to the boars' habitat, and if they cross it, they will definitely cause an accident, as they are animals that weigh more than 100 kilograms.
