Passengers Should Prepare for Busy Airports During Malaysia National Day

During the 68th National Day celebrations, passengers travelling to and from Malaysia should plan ahead due to busier airports over the holiday weekend. Heavier passenger traffic may lead to longer processing times at check-in, security, and immigration. Travellers are advised to arrive early to move through airport procedures more smoothly.

Airspace over the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area will be temporarily restricted for National Day flypast rehearsals and official celebrations. The planned closures are:

• 26-28 August: 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
• 29 and 31 August: 8:45 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.

Passengers travelling during these periods are encouraged to verify flight schedules and carefully plan any connections to minimise potential disruptions.

The AirAsia MOVE app allows travellers to complete self check-in from 14 days up to one hour prior to their flight. The app also delivers up-to-date flight information and allows uploading of visa documents for international travel to help avoid queues. Those checking luggage can print baggage tags at airport kiosks and drop their bags at self-service counters. Cabin baggage is limited to a single item measuring 56 x 36 x 23 cm, along with one laptop bag, handbag, or small personal item, with a total weight not exceeding 7 kg.

Only passengers requiring extra support are eligible to use staffed check-in counters, which are not available to everyone. Staffed check-in counters are available only for passengers with specific needs, including:

• Passengers with reduced mobility
• Pregnant travellers (form required at counter; medical certificate for those over 27 weeks)
• Seniors
• Unaccompanied minors
• Travellers with infants under 24 months

Those needing services like wheelchair support should book them no later than four hours prior to departure, either via the app or when making their reservation.

International travellers are required to comply with all visa and entry rules for both their destination and any countries they transit through. Those holding Malaysian passports and departing from KLIA Terminal 2 can access the MyBorderPass app to expedite their immigration clearance. Passengers who plan ahead and take advantage of airport services can navigate busy airports more efficiently and lower the risk of missing flights.
