Starting April 25, visitors to Venice arriving for just one day will be faced with an entrance fee to the city. This initiative, which has been talked about for a long time, is finally starting.

The scope of the fee is expected to be expanded, and for the 2024 pilot launch, it will only apply on certain days during the high season, from April 25 to July 14. However, not only day-trippers need to worry. More details are reported by edition.cnn.com.

The fee is scheduled to be introduced from April 25 to July 14, but will only apply to certain days during the high season.

The fee will be charged during this period and will amount to 5 euros ($5.45) per person per day. It is worth noting that this fee will not apply to those who cross the city only in transit through certain areas.

Venice authorities have developed an online registration and payment platform that allows you to purchase tickets in advance. On the Venezia Unica website, the official tourist resource, you can choose the date and number of people to register. After payment, you will receive an electronic document with a QR code that must be presented during the visit.

You can cancel your reservation until 23:59 the day before the scheduled visit. In exceptional cases, payment can be made at the entrance to Piazza Roma, a bus stop or at the Venice Santa Lucia train station.

If you are staying overnight in Venice with a confirmed reservation, you do not need to pay the entrance fee, as you already pay the tourist tax for the overnight stay.

Different categories of people have different exemptions. For example, owners of real estate in the city, students, and passengers working in Venice have a long-term QR code valid for a year.

As for control, there are seven ticket checkpoints in Venice where QR codes will be checked. Anyone who evades payment can be fined. Fines range from 50 to 300 euros ($54-$327), plus additional fees.

The Venice entrance fee is a step by the city to reduce the negative impact of tourism on the local economy and provide a more pleasant experience for tourists and residents.
