New "signs" have appeared on the roads of Edinburgh: tourists and inexperienced drivers may get confused
Residents and tourists in Edinburgh, Scotland, have been puzzled by the appearance of strange "road signs" on the city's streets. The seemingly incomprehensible symbols resembled traffic arrows, but they were so confusing that they couldn't exactly convey any message to drivers.
The symbols spotted in Leith and Newhaven have the potential to confuse tourists and inexperienced drivers, as they appear to be regular signs from a distance but actually carry a completely different meaning. Edinburgh Live reports on the nature of these new markings.
The circular signs feature the "YLT" symbol, commonly associated with the Young Leith Team, a well-known street gang. On some signs, the emblem is inverted, while on others, it is depicted correctly.
The City of Edinburgh Council confirmed that these signs are not legitimate advertisements, so they should not be disregarded while driving.
One of the local residents who observed these signs shared his thoughts: "I am concerned that they resemble genuine road signs. This could lead to confusion among drivers, as Leith already has a complex traffic system with tram and other lanes."
Local residents have expressed hope that the authorities will promptly remove the stickers before they cause accidents.
As previously reported by TravelWise, Edinburgh has reestablished its connection with the bustling port area of Leith.
