New adventure from Scandinavian Airlines: a flight to an unknown city
Scandinavian Airlines has decided to embark on an unexpected marketing strategy to attract new customers. The Swedish carrier has announced an opportunity for members of its EuroBonus loyalty program to book a flight called "Destination Unknown."
The move was a success, as within minutes of the announcement on February 12, more than 1,000 members registered for the unexpected flight. However, instead of using cash, travelers had to redeem 30,000 miles for a seat, CNBC reports.
The trip is scheduled to depart from Copenhagen, Denmark, on April 5 and return to the same city on April 8. Moreover, there is a waiting list for those who have registered but have not received a seat. They will have a chance to move up the list and maybe even secure a desired place if someone cancels.
Furthermore, the only clue that travelers will receive before takeoff is that the flight will last several hours. The destination will be announced at some point during the flight.
"These are not just trips; they are extraordinary journeys that will stay with you for a lifetime," Scandinavian Airlines says.
At the same time, it is emphasized that Scandinavian Airlines is not the first airline to use the practice of mystery destinations. For example, Lufthansa is currently offering travelers a program called Lufthansa Surprise, where you can select your home airport and the general theme of the type of vacation you are seeking. Once your ticket is booked, the airline reveals the destination, and it cannot be changed or canceled.
Additionally, in 2023, the low-cost airline Wizz Air organized a mysterious flight from Venice that transported an airplane full of passengers to Saudi Arabia for several days.
As previously reported on TravelWise, Wizz Air has adjusted its flight schedule.
