Near the Florida Strait, a crocodile attacked a man after his sailboat capsized
A 68-year-old man was attacked by an American crocodile while sailing in the Everglades National Park near Florida. He was in the water after his boat capsized and attempted to swim to shore on his own.
Park rangers who arrived at the scene pulled the victim out of the water. The man suffered a laceration on one of his legs, which was promptly treated, CNN reports.
After a rescue operation with the Miami-Dade Fire Department and first aid, the victim was taken to the hospital. The swimmer's condition was stable at the time of his transfer to the hospital.
Park rangers and biologists are investigating the incident. According to them, the suspected crocodile is easy to identify and is being monitored.
The American crocodile is an endangered species. It is similar to the American alligator but is rarer and lives in a limited area.
