London Luton Airport Named European Airport of the Year
London Luton Airport (LLA) has been named European Airport of the Year in the 10-25 million passengers category at the ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards. The announcement was made during the ACI EUROPE Annual Congress and General Assembly in Istanbul, where LLA emerged victorious against competitors Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport and Brussels Airport.
The ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards honor exceptional achievements among airport operators across Europe. These awards highlight outstanding performance in various categories, bringing attention to those excelling in the aviation industry.
LLA's recent accomplishments and strategic initiatives were pivotal in securing this accolade. Over the past year, LLA has implemented several key strategies and improvements:
LLA adopted the ‘One Team, One Plan’ strategy, positioning itself as the UK's most user-friendly major airport with a focus on sustainable growth. It achieved Level 4 'Transformation' in the ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation program, pledging to reach net-zero emissions by 2040. Additionally, the airport expanded passenger amenities by adding 18 new shops, restaurants, and two passenger lounges.
The introduction of an electrified express rail service now connects central London to LLA in about 30 minutes, enhancing convenience for travelers. Moreover, the airport displayed remarkable operational resilience following a significant car park fire in October 2023, continuing to improve its operations and collaboration with stakeholders.
