LNER Introduces Tartan-Themed Menu for Edinburgh Fringe Festival

LNER is celebrating the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with a special tartan-themed menu for its First-Class passengers. Available on select weekend services from Friday to Monday throughout August, this exclusive menu highlights traditional Scottish delicacies, enhancing the travel experience for visitors attending the world-famous festival.

One of the key features of the menu is the Haggis Sausage Roll, accompanied by neeps and tatties, bacon, and topped with oats and parsley. Additionally, a sweet Scottish tablet offers a taste of local tradition. For Standard class travelers, Scottish favorites such as Irn Bru and Tunnock’s Caramel Wafers will be available for purchase at the Café Bar or through the seat service 'Let’s Eat At Your Seat'.

This initiative by LNER signifies more than just a culinary upgrade; it represents a broader commitment to celebrating local culture and cuisine. For travelers, especially those visiting Scotland for the Fringe, it provides an immersive introduction to Scottish heritage right from the start of their journey. The incorporation of regional specialties not only enriches the travel experience but also supports local producers, reflecting LNER's dedication to responsible sourcing and sustainability along its 956-mile route.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, running from August 2 to August 26, 2024, is the world's largest arts festival. This year, it features over 3,600 shows, with performances spanning theatre, comedy, dance, physical theatre, circus, cabaret, children's shows, musicals, opera, music, spoken word, exhibitions, and events. The festival's open-access policy allows anyone with a story to tell and a venue willing to host them to participate, fostering an environment of creative freedom and diversity​.

Notable for its extensive range of performances, the Fringe attracts artists and audiences from around the globe. This year's festival includes 849 shows from Scotland and 608 from Edinburgh, contributing to a total of over 52,000 performances throughout the month. With an average ticket price of less than £13, the Fringe offers 456 free shows and another 686 using the ‘pay what you want’ or ‘pay what you can’ model, making it accessible to a wide audience​.
