In New Zealand, a fisherman miraculously survived after spending nearly 24 hours in the water: details of the rescue
An incredible rescue unfolded near Whangamata, New Zealand. Three fishermen saved a man who had been in the cold water for over 23 hours after falling from his boat.
The men spotted the man struggling in the vicinity of Mayor Island. He was signaling for help using the sunlight reflecting off his watch, as reported by NewsHub.
The survivor recounted that he had gone fishing on his 12-meter boat with plans to return the following day. However, while reeling in a large catch, he accidentally fell into the water.
Unable to swim back to his boat, the man was swept away by the current, drifting farther from his vessel until he was left alone in the elements. Despite encountering a shark, the fisherman remained unharmed.
He endured the night and day in this manner until some passing boaters noticed a glimmer in the water and decided to investigate. Initially skeptical, the three men approached cautiously and were eventually convinced of the man's presence.
