How to avoid chaos when a flight is canceled: two effective tips from an expert
Traveling in winter involves the risk of being canceled due to bad weather. But one travel industry expert has shared his top two tips for preparing for a cancellation that will help travelers get home faster.
Scott Laird shared his advice with FodorsTravel, a US-based travel site for which he writes. He decided to talk about his experience after his flight to Denver was grounded in Aspen due to snow.
Although he is a travel expert, his advice can be used by every traveler.
First, Laird suggests using your airline's app to track your flight rather than the airport. He found that his carrier, United Airlines, gets information faster than the airport thanks to push notifications on its app.
Second, Laird suggests tracking your flight before it arrives at the airport. If the flight has been delayed since leaving the first airport or landing at your airport, your flight will also be delayed.
"If the airline's estimate of your departure time seems questionable, look at where your plane is. I was able to determine how many times my flight would be delayed because I knew the plane was still in Denver an hour in advance," he explained.
