How does the beautiful resort on the Adriatic Sea coast, called the 'city of cats,' look like, and what is it known for
Kotor, a picturesque city located on the coast of Montenegro, fascinates travelers with its ancient streets, majestic mountains, and crystal-clear sea. But Kotor has one more feature that makes it unique: it is home to many four-legged furry animals, which has earned the city the nickname "City of Cats."
A Daily Star correspondent who visited the resort was amazed by the number of animals at every turn. The history of Kotor residents' love for felines goes back a long way.
Once upon a time, the city was an important trading center, and cats were known to keep the population of rodents that harmed goods under control. Over time, the animals have become an integral part of the city's life, its symbols, and pets.
Walking along the cobblestones of Kotor, you will definitely meet furry friends lazily napping in the sun, playing by the fountains, or watching you from the windows. Cats here are different: fluffy and sleek, colorful and plain, playful and calm.
Local residents treat their furry companions with great love and care. You can find many cat houses, food and water bowls, and special shops selling everything for cats in the city.
Some tourists can even take a lot of great photos with furry models if they are in the mood.
However, the pearl of the city is the museum dedicated to cats. The tourist visited it and shared her impressions.
"Just like the city itself, the interior of the museum is permeated with cats, from unusual paintings to old advertisements, vintage movie posters, and vinyl record covers... The museum does not accept card payments, so make sure you have 1 euro if you want to enter and more cash if you want to buy some gifts there," the traveler said.
