Hannover Airport Gears Up for Busy Easter Travel Season
Hannover Airport is preparing for the first major travel wave of the year as Easter holidays begin in Lower Saxony. Around 750,000 passengers are expected between the start of local holidays and the end of the break in North Rhine-Westphalia. Daily departures are set to rise, with thousands heading abroad. Easter Sunday is forecast to be the busiest day, with more than 20,000 travellers passing through the airport.
To meet demand, airlines are increasing capacity across popular leisure routes. TUI fly has added more than 30 extra flights to Spain and Greece, offering over 5,000 additional seats to destinations such as Mallorca, the Canary Islands and Greek islands. Hannover remains TUI fly’s largest base, with around 370,000 seats scheduled weekly across 84 flights in its regular programme.
New routes are also being introduced for the summer season. Eurowings will launch direct flights to Nice from 29 April 2026, operating three times a week, followed by Alicante with two weekly services starting 5 May. A seasonal connection to Glasgow will run three times weekly between late June and late August. SunExpress is adding Edremit in Türkiye with two weekly departures.

Alongside new additions, established connections to Lisbon and Bolzano will continue through summer 2026, keeping southern Europe within easy reach. With more than 60 direct destinations available, the airport combines beach routes with regular links to cities such as Barcelona, Vienna, London and Amsterdam, allowing travellers to plan both short breaks and longer holidays without relying on connections.
The upcoming weeks point to a busy but well-prepared period for Hannover Airport. Extra flights and new routes give more options, but peak dates are still likely to be busy. Booking early and allowing extra time at the airport will matter more than usual. The schedule shows how quickly airlines adjust capacity when demand shifts, even within a single season.
