Ryanair has added 1,200 extra seats between Newcastle and Barcelona ahead of the 2026 Champions League round of 16. The additional capacity comes as Newcastle United prepare to host the first leg at St. James’ Park on 10 March, with the return match scheduled in Barcelona on 18 March at Spotify Camp Nou. The airline confirmed the flights are now open for booking.

The extra services are designed to accommodate supporters travelling for both fixtures. Newcastle will welcome Barcelona for the opening match on Tuesday 10 March, before fans head south for the second leg in Spain on Wednesday 18 March. Ryanair said the newly released seats can be secured through its mobile application, alongside its regular schedule.

According to the carrier, demand is expected to rise as match dates approach. The 1,200 additional seats increase available capacity during a period when standard fares often climb sharply. By expanding its schedule for these dates, Ryanair is aiming to respond to anticipated demand between the two cities, which are not typically linked by large volumes of direct traffic outside peak leisure seasons.

Match Dates And Extra Capacity

  • 10 March 2026: First leg at St. James’ Park, Newcastle
  • 18 March 2026: Second leg at Spotify Camp Nou, Barcelona
  • 1,200 additional seats released for travel between the cities
  • Bookings available via the Ryanair app

Beyond the football itself, the timing offers supporters a chance to explore two very different cities. Visitors heading to Newcastle can combine matchday plans with time on the Quayside or trips along the Northumberland coast. Those travelling to Barcelona for the return leg may extend their stay to visit the Gothic Quarter, the Sagrada Família or the city’s beaches.

Adding flights at short notice can ease pressure when big matches attract large travelling support. More seats mean fewer people competing for the same departures and can limit sharp fare increases close to the match dates. Anyone planning to attend either game should book sooner rather than later, as flights around high-profile fixtures often fill up quickly once schedules are set.
