Churchill's false jaw to be auctioned in Britain
Winston Churchill's false teeth will be put up for auction on February 6 in the UK. The starting price of the jaw is expected to be $10,000.
Churchill, the British Prime Minister during World War II, had several sets of upper dentures that were specially designed to preserve his natural lisp and were mounted on gold, according to the Cotswold auction house, CNN reports.
After losing several teeth at the age of 20, Churchill carried two sets of dentures with him at all times.
This set was probably made at the beginning of World War II, the auction house noted, and "is probably one of the most unusual items we have ever sold."
Designed by dentist Wilfred Fish and made by technician Derek Cudlip, the set was first offered for sale by Cudlip's son Nigel in 2010, when it sold for $23,700.
One set is believed to be buried with Churchill himself, while the other is on display in the Hunterian Museum at the Royal College of Surgeons in London.
