Birmingham Gets a Direct Cairo Link

EGYPTAIR will launch a year-round direct service between Birmingham Airport and Cairo International Airport, giving the West Midlands its first direct air link to Egypt’s capital. The route starts on 27 October 2026 and expands Birmingham’s Egypt network, which already includes Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh. It also gives local passengers a non-stop option to Cairo instead of building the trip around a connection.
EGYPTAIR will operate the flights with a Boeing 737 MAX 8, a newer aircraft type in its fleet. Tickets are now on sale, with a choice of booking options and fares. Cairo will also act as a transfer point for onward journeys, including domestic Egyptian services and wider EGYPTAIR connections across Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

The route details are worth checking before adding hotels or onward flights.

The direct flight makes Cairo easier for travellers who previously needed to connect through another European or Middle Eastern hub. The Pyramids of Giza, Khan el-Khalili bazaar, Nile cafés and the Grand Egyptian Museum become simpler options for a city break. Cairo also works as a starting point for Luxor, Aswan, Red Sea resorts and other parts of Egypt.
“We are delighted to connect our passengers directly to a bucket-list destination like Cairo, a city that effortlessly blends thousands of years of incredible history with a contemporary culture, via our new partnership with EGYPTAIR. This route will strengthen our Egyptian offering, providing greater choice for our customers direct from Birmingham Airport."
The main gain for Midlands travellers is fewer moving parts. A direct flight removes the extra airport change and makes short Egypt trips easier to plan, especially outside peak summer. The route should suit family visits, escorted tours and longer itineraries through Cairo. Before booking, compare arrival times, connection gaps and entry requirements rather than choosing only by fare.
