An air scandal broke out between Tanzania and Kenya: passenger transportation is suspended

Tanzania has announced the suspension of all Kenya Airways passenger flights between the Kenyan capital Nairobi and the commercial center of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam, starting January 22.

This harsh decision was made after Tanzania cited a mutual dispute with Kenya. The Kenyan authorities refused to allow Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) to operate cargo flights between Nairobi and third countries, which led to the conflict, Daily Pakistan reports.

According to a statement signed by TCAA CEO Hamza Johari, the Kenyan authorities' refusal is a violation of Section 4 of the Memorandum of Understanding on Air Services signed between the two countries in 2016.

The travel restrictions will affect Kenya Airways, which operates 33 flights a week to and from Tanzania; however, Kenya's national carrier said it is engaging civil aviation authorities and relevant government agencies in Kenya and Tanzania to find a solution to avoid flight disruptions.

Yoweri Makamba, Tanzania's foreign minister, also confirmed that he had spoken with his Kenyan counterpart and agreed to resolve the issue.
