Aena has announced a record increase in slots for the summer schedule
Aena, a Spanish state-owned company managing domestic and international airports, has announced positive news. It appears that airlines within its network have planned almost 8% more seats for this summer compared to last year.
The main factor driving this growth is the recovery of tourism following the lifting of pandemic restrictions. This information comes from a report by Market Screener.
Specifically, airlines have reserved 243 million seats at Aena airports for the summer season, spanning from March 31 to October 26, encompassing departures and arrivals.
European airlines are currently reporting robust summer bookings, maintaining a positive outlook for 2024. Moreover, airlines are benefiting from the ongoing surge in post-pandemic travel.
Furthermore, compared to last summer, Aena has increased its seat capacity by over 10% in the European market, driven by the UK, Germany, and Italy. Meanwhile, the Spanish market saw growth of about 3%.
Aena's passenger numbers are rebounding from the pandemic decline at a faster rate than other European operators. By 2026, the company aims to serve approximately one million passengers daily at its airports.
