A Briton found a way to save money by moving to a hotel in Turkey
Incredibly, one savvy Briton has moved to live in a hotel at a five-star all-inclusive resort in Turkey, which he says is cheaper than his home life in the UK. Josh Kerr, 24, will spend 28 days at the Port River Hotel and Spa in Antalya.
His trip costs £944 compared to the £950 a month he pays for rent and bills for his apartment in Manchester. Moreover, this price includes his return flights, drinks, and food at the hotel, and access to five swimming pools with a sunny 20°C temperature, reports Daily Mail.
The hotel also boasts several bars and restaurants, a spa and entertainment area, and a beach just 300 meters away. The Briton announced his relocation in a TikTok video. "I pay £950 for rent, bills, and council tax. Here you get breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, snacks. What are we doing in England?" he said in the video.
It should be noted that Josh's video went viral, gaining over a million views in 24 hours. The hotel from Josh's original video doesn't open until March, so instead he's staying at the Port River Hotel and Spa, located on the beach in Antalya.
He checked in on a Saturday and spent the weekend relaxing by the pool and exploring the surrounding area, including the nearby town of Side, which he described as a "beautiful" place "surrounded by ancient ruins." "I was wondering if it would be cheaper to go abroad on an all-inclusive basis than to live at home, and it turned out to be," said the Briton.
Comparing Manchester to his current life in the hotel, he added that the people around him are much happier, probably because they are all on vacation. Josh, a creative strategist, will continue to work at the resort full-time and said he plans to do so outside in the sunshine.
It is emphasized that he will continue to make money even in the hotel, avoiding his usual supermarket expenses, electricity costs, city tax, rent, and bills. "I'm taking advantage of one of the benefits I have in my workplace that allows me to work abroad," he said.
The Briton said that his daily work schedule remains the same as it was. The time difference with Turkey is only three hours later, so he can stay connected. "The hotel has Wi-Fi, which works almost everywhere in the complex, so if I really wanted to, I could work from a lounge chair by the pool," he says.
Representatives of the travel industry say this is a great idea for those who can work from anywhere. "Pack your bags, put your apartment or house on a rental site for a month to cover your mortgage or rent, and live in the sun for a month instead, and you'll still have money," they say.
According to TravelWise, another European country is loved by tourists for its Maldives-like water, Michelin-starred restaurants, and incredibly reasonable prices.
