Virgin Drops Dubai and Seattle for Winter
Virgin Atlantic has confirmed it will suspend two routes from London Heathrow, with Dubai and Seattle removed from its winter 2026 schedule. The airline had already paused flights to Dubai, but has now said the service will not return until winter 2027. Seattle flights will also stop for the winter 2026 season before resuming on 27 March 2027.
The Dubai suspension comes as the destination faces wider disruption for airlines, with the conflict involving Iran affecting travel plans to the region. Virgin has also cancelled its Heathrow to Riyadh route entirely after around a year of operation. The airline said the Dubai and Seattle changes were temporary, while apologising to customers affected by the update.
Passengers booked on the suspended services will be contacted with their options, including rebooking or a refund. Virgin said customers can still travel to Seattle through its partner Delta Air Lines, which will continue to offer daily services from London Heathrow. The airline is also shifting capacity towards Africa, with more flights planned to South Africa.
The schedule change should make Cape Town and Johannesburg more accessible during the winter season. From 25 October, Virgin will operate 11 weekly flights to Cape Town and 10 weekly flights to Johannesburg. Earlier morning arrivals into South Africa may help visitors start their trips sooner, while later evening departures are aimed at overnight journeys back to London.
The cuts will be frustrating for anyone planning Dubai or Seattle with Virgin, especially those who prefer direct flights on one airline. Still, the update gives a clear direction for winter travel planning: check alternatives early, keep refund options in mind and look at partner routes where available. South Africa, meanwhile, gets a noticeable boost in Virgin’s winter network.
