Vienna Gains First Direct Air Link to Oman with SalamAir Launch
SalamAir will operate the first non-stop flights between Vienna and Muscat, creating a direct air link between Austria and Oman. The Omani low-cost carrier is set to begin services on 24 June 2026, operating three times a week. The launch creates the first non-stop air route linking Austria with Oman and adds a new Middle Eastern destination to Vienna Airport’s growing international network.
The service details are as follows:
- Aircraft: Airbus A321neo
- Operating days: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays
- Departure from Muscat: 08:35, arrival in Vienna at 13:30
- Departure from Vienna: 14:30, arrival in Muscat at 22:30
This will be SalamAir’s first scheduled service to Austria and its first direct route linking Vienna with Oman.
Vienna Airport referred to the new route as an addition to its existing flight network and noted Oman’s increasing visibility on the travel map. SalamAir also commented on the role of Muscat within its network, where flights connect Central Europe with destinations beyond Oman. Through Muscat, onward services are available to Salalah, several cities in Saudi Arabia, and a number of destinations in India.
The new service opens easier access to Oman’s capital, a city known for its historic sites, coastal setting, and traditional markets. Beyond Muscat, travellers can reach desert landscapes, mountain regions, and beaches along the Indian Ocean. The route also improves access to lesser-visited parts of the Arabian Peninsula, offering alternatives to more established Middle Eastern city breaks and resort destinations.
Airlines have increasingly started adding direct services to newer leisure destinations instead of routing flights through long-established transfer airports. A non-stop connection reduces journey complexity and makes longer trips more predictable. For people travelling between Europe and the Middle East, the Vienna–Muscat service adds a new option that broadens destination choice and strengthens Vienna’s role as a gateway beyond Europe.
