A new direct flight connecting Toronto Pearson International Airport and Berlin Brandenburg Airport has officially started, changing the travel landscape between Canada and Germany. Operated by Air Transat, the service began on June 20, 2025, and will run twice weekly through the end of October. Until now, all flights between the two cities required at least one stopover, making this the first direct connection available to travelers during the peak summer and early autumn travel season.

In 2024, over 15,000 passengers flew between Toronto and Berlin despite the lack of a direct link. The introduction of this service shortens overall journey times and simplifies planning for both leisure and business travelers. The flights are operated using Airbus A321LR aircraft, which provide the efficiency and range required for transatlantic routes. By adding this route, Air Transat enhances its European network and gives passengers a simpler travel option between Toronto and Berlin.

The new route directly connects the Berlin Brandenburg region with Toronto and offers attractive onward flight options. At the same time, the capital region offers travelers from Canada a variety of experiences – from the vibrant metropolis of Berlin with its culture, history, and creativity to Brandenburg's lakes, castles, and nature.

Canadian travelers heading to Berlin now have faster access to several of the city’s outdoor destinations. These include Tempelhofer Feld, a former airfield that has become a large public park suitable for walking and cycling. Teufelsberg, a hill created from postwar rubble, features an abandoned listening station and views over the city. Another popular site is Mauerpark, which occupies part of the former Berlin Wall zone and hosts weekend flea markets and open-air performances.

German travelers arriving in Toronto can now more easily reach local places of interest beyond the downtown core. High Park offers trails, green spaces, and a lakeside environment within the city. The Beaches, a lakeside neighborhood, provides public boardwalks and sandy shorelines popular in warmer months. Just outside downtown Toronto, Evergreen Brick Works provides visitors with nature trails, a farmers market, and environmental exhibits in a repurposed industrial setting.

This new route reflects growing demand for international direct flights as travelers seek practical and time-saving options. For travelers on both sides, this means easier journeys without complicated connections or lengthy waits. As air service networks continue to develop, similar connections may play an important role in shaping the future of transatlantic travel.
