Preservation of cultural heritage: Bali introduces a new tourist tax

The authorities on the island of Bali are implementing a new tourist tax. The new initiative aims to promote the preservation and continuation of the island's unique cultural heritage.

Starting from February 14, 2024, tourists will be required to pay a new tax. Foreign visitors to Bali will be charged a one-time fee of 150,000 Indonesian rupiah (USD 10). This fee is applicable for each visit or arrival to Bali and applies to adults and children of any age, as reported by WelcomebacktoBali.

Upon arrival, foreign visitors are encouraged to make the payment via the Love Bali website or app. After payment, a tourist tax voucher will be sent via email, and a QR code can be downloaded to a smartphone or printed for scanning at checkpoints at Bali airport and seaports.

However, there are exceptions, as certain categories of visas are exempt from this fee. These include holders of diplomatic and official visas, vehicle crew, KITAS and KITAP holders, family reunification visa holders, gold and student visa holders, and holders of special non-tourist visas.

To be exempted from the new tax, applications must be submitted 5 days prior to the scheduled arrival in Bali.
