From 10 30 a.m. on Monday September 15 until 4 00 p.m. on Saturday September 27 Rete Ferroviaria Italiana RFI part of the FS Italiane Group will conduct extensive infrastructure works along the Caserta Benevento Foggia railway. These interventions are part of preparatory work for the Naples Bari High Speed High Capacity line and are designed to modernize key sections of the railway, improve operational efficiency, and support future high speed services along one of southern Italy’s main transport corridors.

To ensure the network can handle higher capacity and future high speed services, several important upgrades are planned. The planned upgrades will include several key interventions:

  • Activation of a new branch service point between Caserta and Cancello
  • Management of the Cancello to Frasso Telesino section using a Multistation Computerized Control System
  • Maintenance and waterproofing of several bridges along the Benevento to Foggia line

Approximately 300 workers per day, including RFI technicians and specialized contractors, will be involved in these works, with a total investment of around 430 million euros. These works are intended to improve reliability and safety for regional and long-distance trains, while readying the line for future high-speed services along the Naples to Bari route. Travelers should be aware that work will require temporary service suspensions and adjustments throughout the period.

Access to key attractions along the route may be affected by these disruptions. Visitors planning trips to the Matese Regional Park with its scenic trails, the Sant’Agata de’ Goti historic town center, or the Taburno Camposauro Nature Reserve could experience delays. During the temporary suspension of trains on the Caserta to Cancello to Benevento to Foggia route and parts of the Rome to Naples line via Cassino, travelers are advised to check timetables and plan alternate travel options.

The upgrades are expected to bring long term benefits for travelers. Attractions such as the Roman Amphitheater of Benevento, the Castelcivita Caves with their underground formations, and the coastal trails of the Gargano Promontory will become easier to access once services resume. Enhanced control technology and bridge repairs should increase punctuality and safety on the line, making train journeys more consistent.
