Lapland Prepares for Busy Christmas Season with Direct Flights

Lapland is expecting a surge in visitors this winter as demand grows for festive holidays in the region. Rovaniemi, widely recognised as the official hometown of Santa Claus, remains at the centre of seasonal tourism. Attractions such as Santa Claus Village, where guests can cross the Arctic Circle, send stamped letters from the Santa Post Office, and enjoy traditional winter activities, are preparing for the peak season in December.

You can also visit Santa Park, a well-known site built underground near Rovaniemi. It's a great place to go, with festive rides, craft workshops, and even an Elf School where kids can get involved. Combined with the open-air attractions of Santa Claus Village, it helps make Rovaniemi one of the main family destinations in Finland during the Christmas period.

Lapland also draws large numbers of visitors to its ski resorts, including Levi, Ylläs, and Ruka. These resorts cater to skiers of all abilities and also offer lessons and plenty of places to stay. Visitors who want a break from the slopes often join reindeer or husky rides, or take snowmobiles into the forests and fells. Many also hope to spot the Northern Lights, with Saariselkä and Ivalo known as good places to catch them on clear nights.

Finnair connected visitors from abroad to Lapland through scheduled flights to Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Ivalo, and Kuusamo. The carrier has updated its winter schedule to match holiday demand, adding more services for both local and international passengers. This makes it simpler to reach northern Finland during the busy festive season.

The combination of festive attractions, winter sports, and cultural experiences continues to strengthen Lapland’s position as a leading destination for seasonal travel. With visitor numbers expected to rise again this year, regional airports and operators are preparing for one of the busiest periods on the calendar.
