Etihad Confirms First Direct Luxembourg–Abu Dhabi Route
Etihad Airways has confirmed that it will launch non-stop flights between Luxembourg and Abu Dhabi starting 29 October 2026. The carrier becomes the first Middle Eastern airline to serve Luxembourg and the only operator offering direct flights on the route. Services are planned three days a week using Airbus A321LR aircraft. This marks an expansion of Etihad’s European network and creates a direct air bridge between the UAE capital and one of Europe’s key financial centres.
The airline states that the route responds to growing interest in direct access to Abu Dhabi and its wider international network. Flights will arrive and depart from Luxembourg Airport, offering a practical option for those travelling between the Benelux region and the UAE. Etihad highlights Abu Dhabi’s tourism, cultural sites and business environment as likely draws. The service also reduces the need for transfers within Europe or via Gulf hubs previously used by passengers based in Luxembourg.

Etihad will operate the A321LR configured with three cabins, including First Suites and lie-flat seats in Business Class. Economy Class features newer seat designs, individual screens and in-seat connectivity. Onboard Wi-Fi is also expected across the cabin. According to Etihad, the schedule is arranged to support business and leisure travel, as well as onward links at Zayed International Airport. Statements from both the airline and Luxembourg Airport indicate that the new link is seen as commercially and strategically valuable.
The launch opens easier access to a range of destinations. Abu Dhabi offers cultural landmarks such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the developing Zayed National Museum district, alongside beach resorts, desert activities and year-round warm weather. Connections via Zayed International Airport provide links into Asia, including Thailand, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, India and Indonesia, which may appeal to those seeking long-haul holidays or visiting family.
The addition of Luxembourg gives Etihad another foothold in northern Europe and brings a new long-haul option to a market typically reliant on connections. For travellers based in Luxembourg and nearby regions such as Belgium, Germany and northern France, a direct Gulf route removes one transfer and adds more choice for long-distance itineraries. It also places Luxembourg on the map for inbound visitors from the Gulf and Asia, adding tourism potential for the Grand Duchy’s historic city, museums and castles.
