Košice Gains Direct Rome Route With Twice-Weekly Flights
Wizz Air has launched a new direct route linking Košice with Rome Fiumicino, giving eastern Slovakia a regular air connection with one of Europe’s busiest airports. The service operates twice a week throughout the year, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, using an Airbus A321 aircraft. The first flight departed with 197 passengers on board, marking the start of the airline’s twelfth scheduled route from Košice Airport.
The new route links the second-largest city in Slovakia with Italy’s capital without transfers. Rome Fiumicino ranks among the busiest airports in Europe and offers many onward flight options. The connection improves links between eastern Slovakia and Italy and also makes Košice easier to reach for visitors travelling from Rome and nearby parts of the country.
Flights twice a week give a regular option for both short trips and longer stays. Košice Airport continues to add destinations, offering people in eastern Slovakia more direct routes. Interest in non-stop flights remains strong, especially in regions where reaching large international airports usually requires extra time and additional connections.
Direct access to Rome opens opportunities to visit historic landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Vatican Museums and neighbourhoods known for traditional cuisine and local markets. Convenient arrival at Fiumicino Airport also makes it easier to continue journeys within Italy, including rail connections to other cities. Visitors travelling in the opposite direction gain simpler access to Košice and the surrounding region, known for cultural sites and nearby natural landscapes.
Regular flights operating year-round provide a predictable option when planning trips between Italy and eastern Slovakia. Fewer connections can make journeys easier to organise and reduce uncertainty around transfer times.
