Passengers on a Volaris flight departing from El Bajío Airport (León) to Tijuana faced a harrowing ordeal when a man attempted to take over the plane. The early-morning flight turned into chaos as most passengers were still asleep. The suspect, threatening a cabin crew member by holding a pen to their neck, demanded the plane be diverted to the United States.

The 31-year-old suspect claimed that a family member of his had been kidnapped and that he had received death threats shortly before takeoff if he proceeded to his intended destination, Tijuana. The man’s spouse and children were also aboard during the incident.

Crew and Passenger Solidarity

The initial moments of the incident were tense and filled with uncertainty. The flight crew acted swiftly to manage the situation, restraining the suspect and seating him at the front of the plane. The flight was diverted to Guadalajara to ensure the safety of everyone onboard.

On the ground, the situation escalated further. After landing, the suspect attempted to escape by rushing toward the open aircraft door, threatening another flight attendant in the process. At that critical moment, a passenger, traveling with his loved ones, bravely intervened to subdue the man until law enforcement personnel arrived.

The passengers from the flight were eventually transported to their destination on another aircraft, and fortunately, the episode ended without significant harm.
