Genoa Prepares for New Waterfront Stay Options
Accor has confirmed the development of Sofitel Genoa Waterfront, a luxury hotel scheduled to open in 2027 along Genoa’s historic harbor. The project is being carried out in partnership with AG Group, Italy’s leading integrated tourism operator, and is part of the Waterfront di Levante development. Featuring 120 rooms, of which 20 are suites, the hotel combines French-style interiors with the maritime heritage of Liguria. The property, developed under the direction of Renzo Piano, combines modern architectural features with the historic waterfront character of Genoa.
The project is supported by investors Orion and CDS Holding SpA and is intended to become a notable addition to Genoa’s skyline. Planned hotel facilities include:
- An all-day dining restaurant
- A lobby lounge bar
- A pool bar
- A spa
- A gym
- A swimming pool
- Two meeting rooms
“Italy is one of Sofitel's most important markets in Southern Europe, and the opening of Sofitel Genoa Waterfront marks a milestone in our growth strategy, after the success of Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese. We are delighted to partner again with AG Group to bring a new icon of French Zest and luxury to Liguria region, where rich history and vibrant culture meet the Mediterranean spirit."
The hotel’s location, along with planned infrastructure upgrades, will make it more accessible for visitors. By 2026, high-speed trains are expected to link Genoa and Milan in just 53 minutes, improving travel options for domestic and international visitors and reinforcing the city’s role as a regional transport hub. The Bigo lift offers sweeping views over the harbor and urban landscape, Piazza De Ferrari presents historic fountains and architectural highlights, and the Old Harbour promenade provides a waterside path with shops and cafes.
Additional nearby sites offer further opportunities for sightseeing and short excursions. The harbor skyline is marked by the Lanterna lighthouse, a longstanding maritime landmark. Porto Antico Aquarium includes outdoor spaces suitable for relaxation and harbor views. The panoramic terrace of Spianata Castelletto offers broad vistas of Genoa and its port, giving travelers a clear sense of the city’s structure and waterfront. These sites place the hotel within easy reach of key local attractions, allowing visitors to explore without long journeys.
Sofitel Genoa Waterfront’s debut increases accommodation choices in a city where independent hotels have long prevailed. For visitors, this provides modern amenities in a central setting, along with better links to transport and local attractions. The combination of improved connections and proximity to local sites makes the hotel a convenient choice for travelers, suitable for both short stays and longer visits along the Ligurian coast.
