Lagos is preparing for the arrival of a 119-room Crowne Plaza hotel, set to open in early 2028 as part of a franchise deal between IHG Hotels & Resorts and Watercress Hotel International Limited. The development is planned in Ikeja, the area where much of Lagos’ commercial and administrative activity takes place. Valor Hospitality Partners will oversee operations, supporting IHG’s objective to increase its presence in key cities across Africa.

For both international and domestic travellers, the opening of Crowne Plaza Lagos Ikeja will expand accommodation options and availability. Because Lagos is often difficult to navigate, a hotel near important transport connections can provide added convenience for guests. Visitors who haven’t been to Lagos before may find that global hotel brands offer more predictable quality and comfort.

We are proud to partner with IHG Hotels & Resorts to introduce the globally recognised Crowne Plaza brand to Lagos. Our vision for this property is to create a landmark hotel that reflects the energy and ambition of Lagos, while not only meeting but exceeding the international standards expected by modern travellers.
Samuel Ayinde, Executive Director, at Watercress Hotel International Limited

The hotel’s site near Murtala Muhammed International Airport places it within reach of important government buildings and business hubs. Visitors staying in Ikeja will also be within reach of leisure destinations such as the popular Ikeja City Mall, the busy Computer Village electronics market, and the vibrant Allen Avenue known for its nightlife and local food spots. Visitors will benefit from quick and easy trips to these popular spots when staying at the new hotel.

The new hotel may also appeal to travellers exploring further into the city, with straightforward routes to coastal and entertainment areas. Guests will be able to reach Elegushi Beach for waterfront relaxation, visit the Lekki Conservation Centre to experience one of West Africa’s longest canopy walkways, or spend time at the bustling Tafawa Balewa Square, a central location for public gatherings and cultural events. The hotel’s strategic placement near major roads may reduce travel time to these sites.

In a broader context, this development marks a step forward in Lagos’ efforts to support tourism and business travel. With more reliable lodging options and improved access to diverse urban and coastal attractions, the city is becoming better positioned to welcome a wider range of visitors. This change is expected to make traveling to Nigeria’s main business hub easier and provide travellers with more lodging options.
