Child’s Seatbelt Refusal Led to Toronto Flight Cancellation
A Porter Airlines flight between Victoria and Toronto was cancelled after a young child refused to sit down and fasten their seatbelt before take-off. Flight PD444 had already left the terminal and was taxiing towards the runway when the cabin crew noticed the child standing on the seat. Neither the accompanying parent nor crew members were able to resolve the situation.

The airport separately confirmed that the flight was ultimately cancelled because of that closure.
Passengers were moved to a flight the following day, although Porter did not say exactly how many people were affected. The incident shows how a safety problem involving a single traveller can disrupt an entire service once an aircraft has left the gate. Seatbelts must remain secured when required by crew, and an aircraft cannot legally continue towards take-off while someone onboard is standing or improperly restrained.
