Budapest Gets Its Philadelphia Flight Back

American Airlines has restarted its direct Budapest–Philadelphia service after a seven-year gap, restoring a seasonal link between Hungary and the United States. The route returned on 22 May 2026 and will operate until 5 October, using a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Budapest Airport called the launch an important step in rebuilding its transatlantic network.

Flight Schedule

The 234-seat aircraft offers business, premium economy and economy cabins. The daily service runs on the following timetable:

• Budapest to Philadelphia: departs 10:05, arrives 13:30 local time
• Philadelphia to Budapest: departs 17:30, arrives 08:10 the next morning

American Airlines will provide nearly 60,000 seats on the route during the summer season.

The service also gives travellers access to more than 100 onward destinations across North America and the Caribbean via Philadelphia. Budapest Airport said more than 630,000 air passengers travelled between Hungary and the United States in 2025, showing steady demand for transatlantic journeys linked to tourism, business travel and river cruise arrivals.

Philadelphia gives travellers a practical entry point into the US, with onward links across American Airlines’ network. It can make trips to major North American cities easier to plan, while also opening Caribbean holiday options through one hub. For inbound visitors, the route supports easier access to Budapest, including river cruise itineraries and Central European city breaks.

The restored service gives Hungary a direct summer link to one of American Airlines’ major US hubs. It will not remove the need for connections on every journey, but it does reduce reliance on other European airports. For many travellers, that makes transatlantic planning more direct, especially during the peak summer season.
