Three airports located in Washington, D.C. serve tens of millions of tourists annually both on domestic and international flights. When choosing a destination, there are several factors to consider that can make travelling easier or more difficult.

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), and Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport (BWI) serve residents of all regions of Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Eastern Virginia, Simple Flying writes.

If you're a fan of American Airlines, plan a short-haul flight and value speed, you'll want to visit DCA. Of course, the airport is also served by other companies that offer flights over 1300 miles, but there are fewer offers here.

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Dominated by United Airlines, the capital's main international airport receives passengers from all over the world every day. If you're flying from Europe, Asia, Australia or Africa, IAD is likely to be your final stop. It serves slightly fewer people than Ronald Reagan Airport, but it's always busy as well.

Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport (BWI)

Finally, Washington offers to get into the city through the airport, which is the operating base for Southwest Airlines. Here you can find both domestic and flights to European countries.

The advantage of BWI is that the airport has the best ground connections to the rest of the northeastern United States.
