Wizz Air Expands Network from Tirana with New Routes
Albania’s main airline, Wizz Air, has announced its most significant expansion yet at Tirana International Airport. From summer 2026, the carrier will add a new Airbus A321neo to its Tirana base and launch four fresh routes. These will link the Albanian capital with Stockholm Arlanda, Cologne, Billund, and Tenerife, offering more flight options at competitive prices.
The arrival of the 14th Airbus A321neo in Tirana this December will allow Wizz Air to operate 57 routes to 18 countries. The aircraft will also make it possible to boost frequencies on several popular services, helping to ease demand and offer passengers more options.
Key changes to existing routes include:
- Tirana – Milan Malpensa: from 16 to 21 flights per week
- Tirana – Brussels: from 11 to 14 flights per week
- Tirana – Turin: from 9 to 11 flights per week
- Tirana – Berlin: from 7 to 9 flights per week
These upgrades will strengthen Albania’s links with northern and western Europe, particularly Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Spain, making travel smoother and more accessible.
In total, Wizz Air will add half a million extra seats per year and create 35 direct jobs at the airline, alongside more than 350 roles in related industries. Since entering Albania in 2017, the carrier has transported more than 19 million passengers. The expansion reflects rising demand for flights to and from Tirana and confirms the airport’s position as an increasingly important hub for the region.
The new routes make it easier to reach several major European cities. Stockholm opens the door to Scandinavia’s cultural highlights and onward connections, while the Cologne service connects passengers with Germany’s historic attractions and key business centres. Billund is a family favorite for Legoland, while Tenerife opens up the Canary Islands for those looking for warmer weather and a beach holiday in the winter.
The expansion of Wizz Air’s base in Tirana helps position the airport as a main hub, opening up more destinations and travel options for both local passengers and those arriving from abroad. With a stronger base in Tirana, Wizz Air is turning the airport into a key point for travel across Europe, giving both Albanians and international visitors a wider range of routes in the months ahead.
